A private collector of the work of Tibor Freund (1910-2007) came to me with the monumental job of cataloguing and archiving a lifetime of Tibor Freund’s paintings, artwork, documents and journals. The culmination of this work was an exhibition at the Painting Center in New York City (for which I wrote the press release). Tibor Freund was instrumental in bringing movement, three dimensionality and metallic surfaces to a two-dimensional surface during the 1950s and 60s.
Hungarian born, he moved to Brooklyn as a married child with a young son. He worked as an architect for most of his life, making his Op Art pieces in the evenings and enjoyed quite a bit of celebrity at the height of his career.
