Tibor Freund at the Painting Center, NYC 1/2008

A private collector of the work of Tibor Freund (1910-2007) came to me with the monumental job of cataloging and archiving a lifetime of Tibor Freund’s paintings, artwork, documents and journals.  The culmination of this work was an exhibition at the Painting Center in New York City.  Tibor Freund was instrumental in bringing movement, three dimensionality and metallic surfaces to a two-dimensional surface during the 1950s and 60s.

Hungarian born, he moved to Brooklyn, with his wife and their young son. He worked as an architect for most of his life, making his Op Art pieces in the evenings.
